Portobello Press is delighted to invite you to the relaunch of Hardship and High Living: Irish Women’s Lives 1808–1923, a richly researched account of the women who lived through Ireland’s 19th century.
The book will be launched by the writer and poet, Nessa O’Mahony, with contributions from family members Fiona Ó Cléirigh and Niall Ó Cléirigh.
Hardship and High Living draws on unpublished diaries, letters, and contemporary records to present eleven portraits of Irish women — from the privileged drawing rooms of Dublin to the Poor Law Workhouses; from the Crimean War to the Aran Islands. It is a book of extraordinary range and humanity.
